Story and Mission
The Grounds and the Greater Gulf State Fair are proud to be a staple in the Mobile community . We are one of the largest event venues with year-round rentals and we host the Largest Midway on the Gulf Coast , the Greater Gulf State Fair . Our nostalgic Fair is the signature event that inspires multi-generations of the community to gather and celebrate in a safe , fun place year-round . The Grounds , with its significant capacity , is sought after by the community to play host to numerous and diverse events .
The Greater Gulf State Fair is a project of the Mobile Jaycees . With a 14 member Board of Directors , we have a full-time staff at The Grounds with Executive Director , T . Joshua Woods . “ Regardless of the time of year , whether Fair or one of our numerous year-round events , we strive to be a place where community members can make memories ,” Woods states . The Grounds isn ’ t just home to the Greater Gulf State Fair ! We ’ ve played host to events like Morgan Wallen in November of 2021 with over 30,000 attendees , the annual Mobile International Festival , and seasonal Vintage Market Days of Mobile !
How To Do Some Good :
During the year , we hold events like Mobile ’ s Largest Yard Sale and the Miss Greater Gulf State Fair pageant . For these events , we like to have volunteers on hand to help with anything we may need . If you ’ re interested in volunteering with The Grounds and the Greater Gulf State Fair , we have a volunteer group called the Big Wheel Society ! It ’ s made up of former Board members , family , and friends of the Fair . They help with any volunteer needs we may have during the year .
When the Fair kicks off , Big Wheel has volunteers ready for all ten days . Big Wheel volunteers receive their own badges including perks like Fair ticket and the Hospitality Room !
