Story and Mission

The Scouting movement originated in Great Britain in 1908 as an outdoor youth development program started by Lord Robert Baden-Powell . The Boys Scouts of America was developed and organized in the United States in 1910 . Ten years later , the BSA made its way to the Mobile area promoted by BSA representative Paul Harris and members of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce . At every level of the BSA ’ s history , the mission has remained the same : “ to prepare youth to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling in them the values of the Scout Law and the Scout Oath .” These values aim to encourage Scouts to be faithful in their commitment and duty to God , country , community and self .

Over the years , the Mobile Area Council has been a part of the growth and development of the youth of Mobile , Baldwin , Clarke and Washington Counties . We have partnered with hundreds of schools , churches , civic organizations and business owners in the area to inspire the values of service and self-discipline among Scouters . In order to continue functioning , we need more volunteers to participate in the leadership of Scouting .

Story and Mission

The Child Advocacy Center is the Mobile community response for coordinating services and interventions in the allegations of child sexual and / or severe physical abuse .

The Child Advocacy Center of Mobile was formed in 1985 as a nonprofit by concerned citizens and professionals to deal with the problem of the sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of children in our community . The doors to our facility opened in 1988 and have remained open due to the generosity of our community . It is truly a collaborative effort of local government , medical , mental health , educational , social service , and law enforcement agencies . We provide services from the discovery of the abuse through recovery .

The services provided by the Child Advocacy Center are provided under one roof , one of only a few places in the country to do so . Professionals from the CAC itself along with professionals from the Mobile Police Department , Mobile County Sheriff ’ s Office , Mobile County District Attorney , Mobile County Dept . of Human Resources , Lifelines Counseling , Prichard Police Department , and University of South Alabama Department of Pediatrics provide an extensive array of services . This coordinated service delivery allows for interviews from specially trained members of the team , therapy for both the child and non-offending family members , documentation , and evidence for prosecution , as well as continuing training for our partners .

In 2020 , there were 2514 visits to the CAC by our clients , 534 were new clients . We know that we only reach a small percentage of those in need . National studies indicate that 25 % of girls and 20 % of boys will be sexually abused before age 18 , yet only 10 % of them report the abuse . We want to serve more children to end the cycle of abuse . We can only do it with your help . Over 70 % of our funding comes from individuals and businesses that value the work we do .
