Story and Mission
The History Museum of Mobile is where Mobile ’ s story begins . The Museum collects , preserves , safeguards , and interprets over 117,000 objects that weave together the rich , diverse , and often turbulent histories of Mobile and the surrounding area , from the prehistoric past to the present . We believe in the power of stories to shape and define the future . We believe history should be participatory , engaging our youngest and oldest visitors in thoughtful – and often playful – ways . In acknowledging the diverse experiences of Mobilians , we believe the Museum must tell all the stories of Mobile .
Something for Everyone
The History Museum is honored to be curating Clotilda : The Exhibition , which will be installed at the Africatown Heritage House and will open in 2022 . The blockbuster exhibitions that began in 2021 will continue in the coming years , and a full calendar of programming reaches people of all interests and backgrounds . Visitors are invited to check out the new children ’ s discovery room , where our youngest visitors can get a hands-on experience with French Colonial Mobile ! This is a museum of history for all Mobilians !
