At Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama ( GSSA ), we ’ re dedicated to giving back to our community . With every cookie purchase , not only are you helping a young entrepreneur achieve her goals , but you ’ re also helping fund countless community service projects that she will lead throughout the year . Cookies are just a step in propelling our girls and our community forward . Girl Scouts isn ’ t just something girls do , it ’ s who they are and how they choose to serve others .

Last year , more than 5,000 Girl Scouts across 30 counties in southern Alabama discovered their strengths , connected with others , and took action to make our world a better place . They explored interests from outdoor adventures to STEM to financial literacy , devoted thousands of hours of service to our community , and managed the business of selling hundreds of thousands of boxes of cookies . Help ensure that Girl Scouts continues to impact our community today while developing our leaders of tomorrow !

Story and Mission
At the start of the Covid pandemic , while driving downtown to pick up dinner , I noticed a tremendous influx in the amount of homeless people around downtown and midtown . At that moment , I decided to go and get hamburgers , tacos and pretty much anything that was hot and ready and drive around and handed it all out . On the way home , I had the idea of taking breakfast down the following morning , and we did just that . The response was overwhelming and they were all so grateful . From that day forward , it has become what we do every Sunday morning . After several weeks of taking breakfast downtown on Sundays , I realized that there was a desperate need for more than just a hot breakfast . So I started making blessing bags which consisted of non-perishable food items and basic hygiene items . I posted about them on Facebook and what we were doing and the response from friends was extraordinary ! They began donating money to purchase items and also picking up it themselves and dropping off . It seemed to blow up overnight , and the response to help was amazing ! In the past almost 2 years , this little love mission has become larger than I could have ever Imagined !
My Daddy passed away in October of 2019 , and I wanted to find a way to honor his legacy of living a life of a true servant . He and my mom raised me to always do something for anyone who needs your help . That it is always better to give than to receive and they both lived to serve other people , because it is how they were raised . I thought that naming this mission in his honor , was exactly what he would be proud of ! It is truly a reflection of the type of man he was .
Haywood ' s Hope has most definitely changed me and given me as much joy , if not more , than our homeless friends that we help each week . I have developed friendships with so many of them and love spending my Sundays with them ! I don ’ t know who gets more out of that time , me or them ! They are family now and know that if they need anything , all they have to do is call .
