Story and Mission Our mission is to improve the quality of life in the community. We strengthen communities by focusing on uniting and mobilizing resources that make the fight for access to life’s basic essentials, education, health, and financial stability a win for every person in every community we serve. Our Programs & Impact Each year, more than 500,000 individuals are helped by the United Way and our partner agencies. Volunteer Connect is a recruitment and management website that increases volunteerism and mobilizes resources by offering opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer. Through a UWSWA partnership with Lifelines Counseling Services, trained United Way 2-1-1 Help Line call specialists provide individuals seeking assistance free and confidential referrals to community services. Bank On South Alabama was formed to make it easier for everyone to have access to the right kind of checking account, savings account and guidance. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program provides eligible children a monthly age-appropriate book in the mail free of charge until the child’s fifth birthday. In partnership with FamilyWize, UWSWA distributes prescription drug cards that provide savings for individuals who do not have insurance or need medications not covered by insurance. Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, UWSWA provides free federal and state e-filing assistance. 22 Get out and #DoSomeGood in 2020!
