Our mission is to improve the quality of life in
the community. We strengthen communities
by focusing on uniting and mobilizing
resources that make the fight for access to
life’s basic essentials, education, health, and
financial stability a win for every person in
every community we serve.
Our Programs & Impact
Each year, more than 500,000 individuals are helped
by the United Way and our partner agencies.
Volunteer Connect is a recruitment
and management website that
increases volunteerism and
mobilizes resources by offering
opportunities for individuals and
groups to volunteer.
Through a UWSWA partnership with
Lifelines Counseling Services, trained
United Way 2-1-1 Help Line call
specialists provide individuals seeking
assistance free and confidential
referrals to community services.
Bank On South Alabama was
formed to make it easier for
everyone to have access to the
right kind of checking account,
savings account and guidance.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
program provides eligible children
a monthly age-appropriate book
in the mail free of charge until the
child’s fifth birthday.
In partnership with FamilyWize,
UWSWA distributes prescription
drug cards that provide savings for
individuals who do not have insurance
or need medications not covered by
Through the Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance (VITA) program, UWSWA
provides free federal and state e-filing
