The person who won't read has no advantage over one who can’t read .—Mark Twain
Motivation!!!
This special issue of The Missouri Reader highlights student motivation - key to literacy success. Teachers share a variety of successful motivation strategies that have worked in their classrooms. Research articles support student motivation as key to literacy success. Super motivator and Missouri Early Learning Conference speaker, Dr. Danny Brassell, shares the importance of reading - no matter what life choices you make. An interview with children’s author Dianne de Las Casas highlights the importance of having a passion for reading and writing. Our authors prove the importance of motivation and provide readers with inspirational ways to motivate their students.
Mark Twain’s quote is a powerful reminder of just how important it is that we find ways to motivate our students to want to read and write. We hope you will find ideas in this issue that will help you create that motivation and that lifelong love of reading and writing that all literacy teachers seek to promote.
Happy Reading & Writing
