Disclaimer: The book I’m reviewing was written by a former student of mine, Zachariah Rippee. He was in my Content Area Literacy class as a physical education major. I have to say his views on literacy and physical education challenged me to think outside of the box a bit. When Zachariah called me last year to tell me that he had written a book, I have to admit I was surprised. But when he added that he had actually illustrated it, I just had to see it for myself. He brought some of his drawings with him to my office one day, and I was amazed at the beautiful, whimsical artwork that he shared. I’m sure you will be as delighted as I was to read this thoughtful story about the value of learning and believing in yourself.

Elijah and the Key of Knowledge is the author’s debut release in children’s literature. As soon as you begin reading, you will be swept away into the world of exploration as Elijah and his friends, Elliot the Elephant, Slim the Giraffe, and Harry the Lion, try to find the Key of Knowledge. They encounter several challenges along the way, and each time, Elijah has to rely on one of his friends to figure out how to address the obstacle and continue on the journey. Even though he loves his friends

and is thankful for their help, he has always wanted to be the one to save the day. The more his friends have to rescue him, the sadder he feels. When the explorers finally find the treasure, only Elijah has what it takes to actually take possession of the Key, which means he is the only one able to Save the Day! To find out how Elijah pulls it off, you have to read the book for yourself!

The book can be purchased from Amazon in paper or digital form, on the Kindle app as an e-book, or from the Tate Publishing website.
