Show Me Missouri

by Brod Bagert

Some folks make it rhyme with jury

when they say the name Mis-sou-ri.

Others rhyme it with aurora,

they prefer to say Mis-sou-ra.

Yet, no matter how we say it,

we all love to hip-hurray it

Say it now! We can't wait!

Show-Me! Show-Me! Show-Me State!

Blue bird... fiddle... honeybee...

Happy you. Happy me.

Happy 'cause we think it's best

to be the Gateway to the West.

In the middle you will find us,

our location has defined us,

Say it now! We can't wait!

Show-Me! Show-Me! Show-Me State!

And this I promise you is true,

it happened in Missouri too.

Back in the year 1904,

our World's Fair made a giant roar,

and served what then was never known---

a cold, delicious ice-cream cone.

SHOW-ME! SHOW-ME! I CAN'T WAIT!

SWEET MISSOURI! WHAT A STATE!

11

Our state was number twenty-four,

and making it was such a chore,

so back in 1821

a compromise was finally done,

but still, no matter how they made it,

everybody hip-hurrayed it

Say it now! We can't wait!

Show-Me! Show-Me! Show-Me State!

Hawthorn-flower... catfish... mule...

Children love to learn at school,

about Mark Twain, Scott Joplin too,

and even Maya Angelou.

Famous people, all from here,

and that is why we always cheer.

Say it now! We can't wait!

Show-Me! Show-Me! Show-Me State!
