The Missouri Reader Vol. 38, Issue 2 | Page 6

After attending the IRA conference in May, finishing up the spring semester, taking a summer class, and presenting at a conference in New York City, I took a break from my busy schedule and spent the day with Brod Bagert. Yes, you read that correctly---THE Brod Bagert! Julie and I met Brod at the IRA conference in his hometown of New Orleans, and that meeting has developed into a friendship and partnership we hope to cultivate for many years to come. After hanging out with him over Google Hangouts, we discovered shared interests and the passion this man brings to his work as a children's author and poet. He has a vision and mission to support teachers in their work with students of all ages. We knew right away that we just HAD to share Brod's story with you---to inspire you to reach for your goals and make a difference in your own classroom. So read on to discover more about Brod, his background, his writing, and how you can get involved in his latest project.

Jennifer: Tell us a little about yourself, so our readers can get to know you more.

Brod: I visit schools and speak at conferences, so I'm on the road about half the year. The other half I spend in New Orleans with my wife of 44 years, our four children, and our six grandchildren. We spend so much time together that our friends say we're more like a tribe than a family, which is a pretty accurate observation. I think I may be the luckiest guy in the world. I've shared my life with a wonderful wife, our children love to hang out with and take care of each other, our grand-children are healthy, and I love my work as a poet.
