Assistant Editor’s Comments Keisha Panagos This has been a very exciting semester for me both personally and professionally. I have finished writing my dissertation and am now waiting for my defense. Through my SLU experience I have gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of myself and the world in which I live. I look forward to the new adventures that lie ahead of me and with the current economic challenges we are currently facing in education it is sure to be an interesting next couple of years! That is one of the reasons that I love The Missouri Reader. It is a professional journal that enables educators to share literacy practices that can have a positive influence both in and out of the classroom. I am excited to be releasing this issue, which explores various approaches in promoting literacy. With the unique blend of practice and theory this issue will surely enlighten and enrich literacy lovers everywhere.
