The theme of the 2018 CAPD/ACDP Annual
Conference fits so perfectly into the natural setting
of Banff, Alberta, which is situated inside Banff
National Park. When three workers on the newly
built Canadian Pacific Railway discovered a series
of hot springs on the side of Sulphur Mountain (our
Friday Welcome Reception will take place on top of
Sulphur Mountain), the area started to gain
international recognition.
But it was George
Stephen, the President of the CPR, who in 1884
named the area “Banff” after his birthplace in
Scotland. Banff National Park was created in 1885
and the Banff Springs Hotel, the site of the
CAPD/ACDP Annual Conference sessions, opened
in 1888.
No matter where you are being accommodated in
the Banff area, you’ll be surrounded by the Rocky
Mountains, specifically, Mount Rundle, Sulphur
Mountain, Mount Norquay, and Cascade Mountain.
And in the Fall (the Conference is September 13-
14-15), as you ascend the Banff Gondola to the
summit of Sulphur Mountain, you can see the
brilliant yellow larch trees amidst a field of green
coniferous trees. The fresh air, the incredible
scenery, Gray Jays, friendly locals, shopping on
Banff’s main street…talk about relaxation and an
atmosphere of wellness. The perfect setting for the
2018 CAPD/ACDP Annual Conference.
