The Mind Creative FEB 2014 The Magna Carta Magna Carta, also called The Great Charter of the Liberties of England, is an Angevin charter originally issued in Latin in June 1215. It was sealed under oath by King John at Runnymede, on the bank of the River Thames near Windsor, England. The charter is widely known throughout the English speaking world as an important part of the protracted historical process that led to the rule of constitutional law in England and beyond. This 15 x 17 inch piece of parchment is hardly legible and was purchased by billionaire David Rubenstien for 21.3 million in December 2007. 39
