The Mind Creative
The “I LOVE New York” logo remains one of the most widely
recognized, used, imitated and distributed logos in the world. This
logo consists of the letter “I” followed by the symbol of a red heart
and then the letters NY. It might interest graphic designers to
know that the font used is the rounded serif typeface font called
American Typewriter and that this iconic design was created in
1977 by a graphic designer by the name of Milton Glaser.

During the 1970s, the city of New York
was going through turbulent times with
extremely high crime rates and low ebb
of tourist inflow. It is hard to believe
that during this period, this city reached
a nadir of fiscal crisis and it barely
avoided defaulting on its obligations and
declaring bankruptcy. In 1977 there was
wide spread arson and looting after a
blackout in the city that resulted in
more than 4500 arrests. Such incidents
only added to the city’s woes.
