The Mind Creative
I once had a marvellous experience when I was performing at a
mega-show with very elaborate stagecraft and mechanisms.
Depicting the role of a goddess, I was required to descend from
the heavens seated on a throne! A crane was deployed to raise
my seat 40 feet above the stage and slowly bring me down. It
sounded simple enough but the rehearsals proved otherwise. The
expert technician entrusted with the job, came up to me and
tactfully checked out if I had any height phobias! At the very first
trial, I was seated safely belted ready with a serene “goddess”
expression on my face; however it soon turned to bewilderment
and frustration as my seat descended on the stage facing the back
drop instead of the audience! Trial after trial proved to be futile!
Finally I was asked to throw down ropes, while in movement,
attached to my seat, which were deftly caught by the back-stage
staff, who then manipulated the seat to face the right direction!
And all this was 40 feet above the stage! As expected I was more
concerned about my ability to aim my throws correctly rather than
my expressions!
