The Mind Creative Later, in an interview with The Believer, he said “That’s what it should be. You want to do things like that, where you feel you can actually change things.” Today, the New York State Empire State Development (ESD) holds the copyright for this logo and licenses its use. According to an article published in British Telegraph (2011), the logo brings in a revenue of over $30 million per year through official merchandise, such as t-shirts and mugs emblazoned with Glaser’s design. The logo came into greater prominence following the September 11 terrorist attacks on the city. Countless visitors purchased tee-shirts with the “I LOVE NY” logo to show their support for the city’s populace. Glaser created a modified version of the logo, to commemorate the attacks, reading "I Love NY More Than Ever", with a little black spot on the heart symbolizing the site of the World Trade Center. The poster with this redesigned logo was printed in the New York Daily News and was used extensively at fundraisers for New York charities supporting those affected by the attacks. The influence of the iconic logo has spilled to many areas including music. During the initial campaign, the song “I Love New York” was written and composed by Steve Karmen and in fact, in 1980, Governor Hugh Carey declared this song to be New York State’s anthem. 10
