The Mind Creative Nov 2013
At a very early age, art became a part of my life and one of my
earliest memories is that of my grandmother drawing and
painting flowers on cloth, with me. From there on, I began to
take a keen interest in art and my parents soon enlisted me in
art classes. My family, being ardent lovers of music, also
introduced me into the world of music and got me to take formal
lessons in music. Soon, studies and music started putting severe
demands on my time and painting took a backseat. In spite of
this, I kept on taking part in various art competitions. The
perseverance paid off when, at the age of 10, I got an award in
the All India National level painting competition. This must be
one of the happiest moments in my life. In the meanwhile, I also
managed to complete a Vishaarad (a graduate standard) in Indian
classical music.
Till now, I have attempted various styles in painting such as oil
painting on canvas, mosaic painting, glass painting and fabric
painting. Painting landscapes and still life in oil is my favourite
style.
One of the techniques that I would like to share with TMC readers
is the one that I use for paining on glass. To start with, one needs
to make a sketch on a white paper. Thereafter, the sketch needs
to be transferred to the glass by placing the glass on top of the
paper, and tracing the sketch. Once the outline has been
completed, the sketch can then be coloured as needed. Painting
on glass calls for patience and a very steady hand.
Painting and music have been my lifelong passions. Although I
have not been formally trained in painting, this hobby is and will
always remain closest to my heart.
