Franz Schubert Schubert was one of the most prolific classical composers of his time, who passed away at the young age of 31. Like Vincent Van Gogh, his works hardly drew any attention during life and were considered by connoisseurs to be inferior to the works of Bach and Beethoven. The severe lack of finances forced Schubert to live an itinerant and bohemian lifestyle. He hardly made any money from his music and he mismanaged whatever he could earn; living life on loans and charity from friends and relatives. He struggled through the last few years of his life ridden with illnesses but kept on composing music. Music was the only thing that kept him going. He died in obscurity on November 19, 1828, from either typhoid or syphilis (nobody is quite sure), neglected and pen
