The Holy Dip - A Short Synopsis
3 Australian families make the confronting pilgrimage to the
largest and oldest religious festival on earth, the MAHA KUMBH
MELA, on the banks of India’s sacred river, the Ganges. It’s an
ancient event with a modern Australian twist as we follow a two
devout Hindu families and one non-Hindu family making the
sacred pilgrimage – each with their own objectives. The Misras
want their adult children to reconnect with traditional Indian
culture. Pushpa Choudhari wants her teenagers to visit relatives
and experience the Holy Dip amidst unbelievable crowds, as she
did when growing up in Allahabad. The Turner family want to take
their kids on a cultural adventure, build a boat and meet people
by rowing Pilgrims around the Ganges.
Each family fulfils their dream…and reflects thoughtfully on the
spirit of modern Hinduism as expressed in this most ancient Holy
Festival.
