The Mind Creative I do also have a strong appreciation for March 2014 figurative artwork, especially from the renaissance era and I believe that the figurative sculptures from this period are among the finest renderings of human expression ever created. TMC: This particular question is driven by curiosity. Your attention to details is simply astounding. Do you usually base your work on photographs? Or is straight from memory? ANGUS: There is no substitute to drawing from life though I often find myself working from photos due to the difficulty in acquiring real subject matter. Where possible I try to work from stuffed animals and bird skins, which can be accessed at universities and museums. I also have my own collection of material that I have personally collected and preserved, that is slowly growing. Stuffed animals are preferable to live creatures because they remain still and in conjunction with photographs and sketches can be used to create realistic unique poses. If working from photos I generally will try and reposition the subject to a new and unique pose and use the photos as a reference for the surface details. This allows me to pose the subjects how I choose and to be less reliant on the photography and wasting time capturing the perfect frame. 40
