TMC: Artists are often influenced Creative March 2014
has been a source of inspiration for you?
ANGUS: I am a bit of a classicist at heart and find much inspiration from
artists of a past age. I particularly like traditional naturalist artists of the
19th Century such as the American John James Audubon and Australia’s
Edward Lear. I also have a huge admiration for older artists such as Albrecht
Durer and some more contemporary artists such as Walton Ford and Jorg
Schmeisser. Also, my involvement with several groups such as the ‘Sydney
Printmaking Society’ has significant influence over the expansion of my art
practice.
TMC: Some of your most impressive works are based around fauna of all
kinds. Do you specifically prefer drawing wildlife over the human anatomy?
ANGUS: I have a particular fascination with wildlife and have always been
captivated by the natural world. I especially enjoy observing and depicting
bird life and find there a never-ending source of inspiration there for my
own work. I enjoy working with wildlife because it is so common to us but
at the same time completely alien.
