The Mind Creative March 2014 Epilogue: Robert Louis Stevenson was born in 1850. This was more than 60 years after the death of Deacon Brodie. Strangely enough, Stevenson’s father knew the infamous Brodie who had in fact, actually built a cabinet for Stevenson’s father. This cabinet now has its home in the Writers’ Museum in the Scottish capital. Stevenson, based on the tales that he heard from his father, wrote a play in 1880, called Deacon Brodie, based on the Robert Louis Stevenson misadventures of the disgraced Town Councillor. However, the very enigma of dual personalities continued to interest Stevenson and in 1886, he wrote the fascinating novel “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”; which is widely considered to be a classic horror story. Today you can even visit a tavern in Edinburgh aptly called the “Deacon Brodie Tavern”. 15
