The Mind Creative March 2014
Pop art gathered stimulus in
America only in the early sixties
although there were a few artists
there who delved into more
“avant-garde” styles in the
fifties, that was distinctly
different from pop-art. The
works of Roy Lichtenstein
probably defined the advent of
pop art in the United States. He
used oil colours and glistening
Magna paint to create his famous
painting Drowning Girl that
depicted the traditional comicstrip techniques with bold
colours, thick lines and the use
of
dots.
Such
paintings Different Colors Different Perceptions
established pop art in America by Miki Fanfani, via Behance
by merging popular American
culture with art interspersed with
doses of irony, sarcasm and
humour. Amongst the numerous
American pop-artists, Andy
Warhol is probably the most
famous figure in Pop Art possibly
because
he
adopted
the
philosophy of this artistic style
into his own lifestyle.
