The Mind Creative March 2014
Although money has been the prime driver behind forgeries, there
have been cases where gifted artists have produced fakes to tarnish
the credibility of art experts and the art market. The review of the
book “Forged: Why Fakes Are The Great Art Of Our Age” by
Jonathan Keats, says “Modern day art forgers have also
provocatively confronted many of the present-day cultural anxieties
that are major themes in the arts.” While most art forgers feel safer
copying works of deceased artists, there are many who have
crossed that line of safety and have forged the works of living
artists. Extremely talented art forgers have also created works
based on the style of a famous painter (not copies) which requires
an enormous amount of artistic talent.
