The Mind Creative March 2014
As with Julie Taymor’s early performances and Philippe Genty’s
seminal marionette act, there are many other examples of
puppeteers using magic and illusion to conceal the operation at
the same time as revealing another trick.
King Kong as a giant puppet has both visible and invisible
controls. The audience marvel at how lifelike the puppet is, while
seemingly complicit in the knowledge of how it is operated
because the machinations are supposedly on display.
