Simulator’s Cont.
Moulage
is the art of

the purpose
of training.
Another instance where my status has proved beneficial is when
maintaining the simulators. Throughout the different scenarios, simulators
can require just a simple screw adjustment or sometimes a really good
cleaning to dispose of simulated body fluids, blood, secretions and different forms of moulage. This is usually the case with all levels of manikins
(low, mid, and high fidelity). Low fidelity manikins are fairly basic, limited
capabilities with no electronic or computerized parts. Mid fidelity manikins
are a fair bit more complex and probably the most used of all fidelities
due to the basic skills that they are able to cover. Along with having the
same capabilities as the low fidelity, the mid fidelity manikins are able to
simulate all lung sounds, heart sounds, pulses, bowel sounds, blood
pressure, and even a fetal heart rate (on female settings only). Maintaining these manikins can be quite simple to pretty tedious at times. I have
had the opportunity to learn how to calibrate the blood pressure mechanism and services and replace each part of the manikin that has a pulse
or produces sound.
