In late 2013, the dogecoin was added to the
cryptocurrencies, much like bitcoin. It’s value
skyrocketed immediately, as high as $400 per
coin, but plummeted soon after. It is currently
worth about a thousandth of a dollar per coin.
Mr. Weebl, a well known animation you-
tub channel made a doge animation where a
motion tweened dog with the face of Kabosu
moving through various environments and
frequently appearing text in Comic Sans. The
video was backed by an upbeat song repeating
the word doge, similar to the “nyan cat” video.

The doge meme and format also became popu-
lar as a communication device for a short time.
It was even used in political tweets. (Fig. 14)
