Lag Putting
If you go out and play 9 holes and the par for the course you are playing is 36 , putting is half of that score , 18 strokes . A green in regulation on a par three is one shot with two putts , a par four : two shots and two putts , a par five : three shots and three putts . Fifty percent of the game we play is on the putting green or at least supposed to be . The one place we should spend a majority of time when we are at the range is the putting green , which always seems to get skipped . Spend some time on the putting green and start by working on three foot putts .
An easy drill for this is to put the head of your putter in the cup and lay it on the green , then stick a tee two inches past the end of the grip because most putters are 34 inches . Move your putter in a circle and place ten tees in the green creating a three foot practice putting circle ( See picture 1 ). Once you have worked on three foot putts take three tees from your circle opening a gap , take the paces from the circle and stick a tee in the green , then three more paces and a tee in the ground and three more paces with your last tee in the ground . Now you have 12 , 21 and 30 foot putts to practice ( See picture 2 ). Take five balls and go to the tee at ten feet . You are trying to keep all five balls in the three foot circle . Continue to the 21 foot and the 30 foot spots . Turn it into a game . You have to keep all the balls in the three foot circle or you have to start over . The more comfortable you become with putting from 30 feet and keeping it in a three foot circle , the quicker strokes just fall off the scorecard .
