Meet your neighbourhood's friendly foldie
The intrepid cyclist
Sixty-something former teacher SC Chin is setting an example for retirees to explore the great outdoors with their bicycles. He shares his experience with The Malaysian Foldie on his he got started and what inspires him..
A teacher by profession and adventurer at heart, SC Chin retired recently and began organizing cycling trips for folding bike enthusiasts in the Klang Valley.
He is known by many as Cikgu Chin and is very passionate about cycling.
Chin recalls: "I have been cycling since young and had recently dabbled with a folding bike after seeing how convenient it is.
"And I started going into these bikes two years ago after joining a social ride organized by my friend Andrew Ng in Putrajaya. Ever since, I have been joining his activities and kept myself informed through social media network sites such as Facebook."
He said his most exciting ride was an excursion to Taman Negara in Pahang where a group of cyclist had initially rode from Kuala Tembeling to Kuala Tahan where the National Park's headquarters is located.
"We rode to Kuala Tahan and took a boat ride back to Kuala Tembeling instead. It was an exciting event!"
Speaking on future excursions, Chin said he had wanted to cycle in the capital of England sometime in the future.
"I want to cycle around London.
"It's a bicycle-friendly city and there's a lot to see there."
On beginners taking up bicycling, Chin advised them to always place safety as paramount.
"Wear a helmet, be alert and keep a look out for bad road surfaces so you won't fall and hurt yourself.
"Keep your eyes peeled on incoming traffic and never speed."
