ROCK & ROLLA - continued from previous page..
Shifting is smooth and accurate and when it comes to climbs, the 50/34T compact chainring on this bike can generate
enough torque with the cogwheels (26" - 111" gear inches) to deliver enough power to take on any terrain.
Although the S18 lacks in top-speed, it compensates with a silky-smooth ride.
To crank the chainring, a set of MKS EZY quick-release pedals comes as a standard accessory with the bike.
These are really hardy and when you transport the bike, the pedals can be removed for safekeeping.
So, if you are a tourer looking for a compact-sized bike with tires that are not too small, this may take the cake.
For stopping power, the S18 is equipped with a pair of Avid BB-7 mechanical disk brakes. These are pretty decent as they
are also pretty simple to maintain.
Apart from the Eclipse P7i, P18 and X20, the Eclipse S11i is the only bike that uses disk brakes.
With inner-city commutes in mind, the S18 is created as a bike that is ready for any eventualities.
Racks on the front and rear are standard fittings.
There's the rear portage 24 rack that integrates seamlessly with most bike luggage systems.
For the front fork, Tern packaged the S18 with a set of Spartan rack.
So, you slap on some panniers on the racks, you are ready for the long haul of your life.
Other goodies on the S18 includes the award-winning Biologic seatpost pump II.
If you experience a flat, this pump can get your bike going in the shortest time possible.
Speaking of quality, seeing is absolutely believing.
Tern did not cut any corners to give the folding bike enthusiast a good choice.
The quality, fit and finish of the S18 deserves a Rockstar tribute.
Right now, the bike is not available in Malaysia. But plans are afoot to bring in limited quantities of the Eclipse S18 for
discerning folding bike enthusiasts in the country.
Tern bikes are distributed by K2 Asia and inquiries about the Eclipse bikes can be forwarded to the company.
