Editor's note
IT'S MAY DAY! And happy Labour Day to all you workers out there..
Wow, time flies. We are in our ninth issue and moving on to the second quarter of the year. I hope you've had an eventful time so far as there are so many cycling events in the country.
Come August, Penang will have it's hallmark event again: the round-island Campaign For A Lane ride. This is so far, Penang's most successful cycling event -- bringing cyclists of all genre from all over the country.
The Pearl of the Orient is a nice place to be and there's ample accommodation for the out of town foldie.
To the uninitiated, the CFAL experience is an 84km ride around Penang island and is a "must do" if you have a foldie.
But before you do so, train yourself for cardio and endurance strength. Back in the Klang Valley, the Petaling Jaya City Council has started their Car Free Day ride.
This is the second Local Authority to join the Kuala Lumpur City Hall in organizing Car Free Day rides around their jurisdiction.
Previously, local councils such as the Subang Jaya Municipal Council had their monthly rides. It started well but the enthusiasm had sizzled out due to poor response.
A note to the City Hall: Please ensure that the roads are well-maintained to encourage cyclists and pedestrains. From past experience, Kuala Lumpur's road is riddled with potholes and road debris. Cleanliness is another thing as people tend to litter.
It's rather disgusting to ride along paths that are strewn with water bottles and cigarette butts.
Last but not least, ride safe!
Make sure you have your head protection on at all times and do observe courtesy on the road as we are not the only ones using it.If you lead with the good example others will follow.
And if you commute with the LRT, be sure to bag your folding bikes for the convenience of other users. Don't be a Primadonna and behave like others owe you a living just because you cycle a folding bike.
Till then, see you on the road!
