ENGINEER Kong Chai Chen who is also a profesional YoYo demonstrator purchased his folding bike last year due to his stalled car.

"It was frustrating. My car died on me and I had to commute to work.

"I take about two hours to get to my office on a train and did the rest of the journey by walking.

"Later, I learned that I can cut down my traveling time by cycling and the first thing that came to mind was a bicycle."

Kong added that his choice was narrowed down to a folding due to its ease of transportation.

All there is needed, was a bicycle bag and he was back in business.

"When I cycle to work, I realised that I did not waste time in covering that last bit where I need to walk for two more kilometres.

"So, the bike came in really handy and when I realised that I am not the only person who is doing so, I later joined other cycling peer groups and learned a great deal about commuting from the more experienced cyclists."

Kong said the benefits of cycling are huge.

His level of fitness has improved as well as savings on parking and taxi fare.

"On days when I am too beat to walk, I take the cab.

"This is where I realise that I have paid too much to cover such a short distance."

Apart from the savings, Kong added that his office management was also kind to workers who cycle to work.

"I am allowed to fold and bring my bike to work, which is a relief because I don't worry too much about losing it to thieves," he elaborated.

WHERE do people like Lee, Johnathan, Asmawee and Kong get their latest updates on rides and meeting up with other folding bike enthusiasts?

On the Social Media, there's Facebook where there are more than a dozen folding bike peer groups, some, with more than a 1,000 members.
