from Japan became and instant hit in the Klang Valley.

It was later that he had carved a nice in upgrading bicycle for his clients.

"Some people want more from their bicycles, they just can't afford a new bike and my solution for them is to retrofit

the bikes with better components. And if need be, the bikes go through a transformation from a basic ride to a souped-up bike."

An avid cyclist, Lee took interest in Birdy bikes and became known among folding bike enthusiasts for upgrading parts made by Taiwanese company Colour Plus.

"The Birdy is a nice bike, it gets you from point A to B.

"But when customers demand the best performance components money can buy, I have the right solution.

"A typical Birdy costs around RM6K and the upgrades itself would cost the price of the bike, but I never force my opinion on my customers as they indulge in souping up the bikes at their own will," he said.

One of the example at GW Bicycle Boutique is a Titanium Birdy costing a whooping RM20K.

Lee said he is proud to own the bike as quantity was limited.

"It was produced by another company to meet the demands of collectors and Birdy bike enthusiasts.

"What you see on the bike, are high-end components that performs like a full-sized racing bicycle.

"Exotic materials such as carbon-fibre are used to produce the wheels and the entire bike frame is made out of Titanium, one of the strongest metal ever known to mankind."

As a distributor of Pacific Cycles in Malaysia, Lee had the opportunity to meet its founder George Lin in Taipei, Taiwan.

This was followed by a study tour of Japan hosted by the Mizutani group.

"Japan was educational, we were brought to some key dealers in the country and witnessed how they co-existed with each other.

"I believe such strategic partnership is the way for a company to grow, especially in the local bicycling fraternity.

"We were also shown some really exciting products at the Japan tour and I hope to be able to market some of the Birdy models -- especially the Classic bike sometime soon."

On the local front, Lee also kept his customers close by organising weekly rides from his shop to Bandar Botanic in Klang.

"We meet up every week to cycle and through such activities, the cyclists are able to give me direct feedback on my products.

"Right now, we had a cyclist who is on a touring ride from Thailand to Cambodia and Vietnam and I had personally supported him by being a key sponsor for his expedition."
