MORE than 70 cyclists had turned up at My Bicycle Shop's second annual charity ride that took place last month.

The simple 8-km journey from BU4 in Bandar Utama to a charity home in SS3, Petaling Jaya, was the highlight of the event.

Earlier in the year, special-edition T-shirts commemorating the event were sold out.

A portion of the proceeds were channeled to the charity home to help fund it's daily operations.

Event organizer Johnny Ng said this was a follow-up to last year's event where the bike shop had organized a ride from BU4 to Old Klang Road.

"We've had great success and support from our friends and customers and this motivated us to organize a similar event to another charity home.

"To source for funds, we designed a new T-shirt and orders started to fill when I posted the pre-orders on My Bicycle Shop's Facebook page late last year."

A large quantity of the garment were purchased by The Kuala Lumpur Foldies, a cycling peer group who fronted more than 40 folding bike enthusiasts for the event.

Minutes before the ride commenced, Ng also briefed the cyclists about road safety and kept the riders in tow with some help from volunteer marshals and drivers in support vehicles.

Cyclists arrived at their destination and were greeted by caretakers of the home.

Some volunteered by helping out with chores while others mingled with the residents.

To reward the cyclists, Ng also catered food.

The cyclists were treated to a food truck parked in front of the charity home offering steamboat dishes.

After the formalities, the event concluded with a ride back to the bike shop in BU4, Bandar Utama.

Ng said the event had turned out to be a succes and thanked the cyclsits for their support.

"We are going to continue with the charity ride as it is an annual event in our calendar.

"Later this year, I am going to organize a river clean-up at the Sungai Chilling freshwater fish sanctuary and hope to get the same support from our friends," he concluded.
