Wildlife
T
he Maine Highlands' lakes,
forests and mountains are
home to a rich variety of
wildlife, including some species
more commonly found farther North
like the pine marten, Canada lynx,
snowshoe hare, and gray fox. The area
is best known for its high population of
moose and black bear, but sharp-eyed
visitors can also spot white tailed deer,
numerous migratory and native birds,
and a huge variety of small mammals.
GO WHERE THE ANIMALS ARE
You’ll have the best chance of seeing
wildlife if you get off the beaten path
and take a walk, hike, or paddle in one
of our vast natural areas.
