inter is just as much
fun as summer in
The Maine Highlands,
whether you love racing
across the snow and ice or the quiet
solitude of a white-blanketed forest.
Snowmobiling, ice fishing, Nordic and
alpine skiing, snowboarding, tubing,
snowshoeing, and dog sledding are
great reasons to get outdoors during
the colder months. Miles of smooth
backcountry trails crisscross the region,
and family-friendly ski mountains
provide rentals, lessons, and affordable
lift passes. Many of the region’s towns
and villages celebrate the cold weather
with holiday parades, ice fishing
derbies, snowmobile races, festivals,
and carnivals throughout the winter.
