Honey : Its Use And
Ancient History
Introduction
Honey’s use as a medicine is often
thought to be older than the known
history of pharmaceutical
themselves. Some suggest its use
may be the oldest medicine known to
man. Honey contains antibacterial
agents as well as osmotic (draws out
moisture) properties. It was known
to the Sumerians and the Ancient
Egyptians for its healing benefits.
Honey is twice as sweet as cane sugar
and considered to be a complete
food. It contains half of all amino
acids that are essential for human
life and 35% of it is protein. The
Greek Pythagoras was said to have
