Muhammad (saw), were destroyed upon the urging of Wahhabi scholars who argued in accordance with Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab's
ideology, that Muhammad (saw) forbade the building of structures over any grave. According to these scholars, adornment or beautification
of graves is forbidden in order to prevent people from seeking a means of approach to God through the dead and to directly seek help from
the dead. Despite this, the graves of many historic figures continue to be visited by numerous pilgrims, and burials continue at the cemetery
to this day.
Many Muslims continue to mourn the day the House of Saud demolished shrines in al-Baqi. It is remembered as the Day of Sorrow or as
Yaum e Gham.
Some of the individuals who are buried there includes:
All of the wives of Muhammad (also known as Mothers of the Believers), including Hafsa, Zainab etc., except for Khadijah bint Khuwaylid
and Maymuna bint al-Harith. Ibrahim, Prophet Muhammad's (saw) son by Maria al-Qibtiyya, who died in infancy Roqayyah, The niece of
Khadijah. Fatima bint al-Asad, aunt of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and mother of Imam Ali. Other aunts of the Prophet (saw) including
Safiya and Aatika. Lady Fatima Zahra, Muhammad's (saw) daughter by first wife Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. Abbas ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib,
uncle of Muhammad (saw). Fatima bint Hizam, known as Umm ul-Banin, who married Imam Ali after the death of Fatimah; mother of
four children who died defending Hussain ibn Aliin Al-Taff Battle in Karbala. Imam Hasan ibn Ali, grandson of Muhammad (saw), son of
Fatimah and Ali. Imam Alī ibn Ḥusayn, known as Zayn al-Abidin, grandson of Fatima Zahra who is the only adult male that survived AlTaff Battle. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, son of Imam Alī ibn Ḥusayn, the fifth Imam. Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq, son of Imam Muhammad alBaqir, the sixth Imam a.s.
The real question is why was all this necessary? Why was it necessary to destroy the site of the resting place of these individuals (peace be
upon them). These events once again show the hatred that the oppressive tyrants had towards the Ahlul-Bayt (as), not only whilst they were
alive but also once they had passed away. The destruction of their final resting place was also a method whereby the followers of the AhlulBayt (as) were oppressed as time went by.

1. Al-Mualla graveyard in Mecca which includes the grave of Sayyida Khadija bint Khuwailid (as), wife of the Prophet (saw), the grave of
Amina bint Wahab, mother of the Prophet (saw), the grave of Abu Talib, father of Imam Ali (as), and the grave of Abdul Muttalib,
grandfather of the Prophet (saw)
2. The grave of Hawa (Eve) in Jeddah
3. The grave of the father of the Prophet (saw) in Medina
4. The house of sorrows (bayt al-Ahzan) of Lady Fatima (as) in Medina
5. The Salman al-Farsi mosque in Medina
6. The Raj'at ash-Shams mosque in Medina
7. The house of the Prophet (saw) in Medina, where he lived after migrating from Makkah
8. The house of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) in Medina
9. The complex (mahhalla) of Banu Hashim in Medina
10. The house of Imam Ali (a) where Imam Hasan (a) and Imam Husayn (a) were born
11. The house of Hamza and the graves of the martyrs of Uhud (a)
WHAT WAS THE CRIME OF AHL AL- BAYT (AS)?
What was the crime that these purified individuals committed which resulted in them being oppressed during their lifetimes, resulted in
them being martyred, then continuously being oppressed after they had passed away?
It is really simple actually. This is the way truth has always been dealt with on this planet unfortunately.
Do you think that this type of oppression of the purified servants at the hands of the unjust is something new, which started with the AhlulBayt (as)?
Let us just look back to the Prophets and vicegerents of old. Ask yourself was any of the Prophets of God unanimously accepted by the
people, or did they live lives continuously suffering hardships at the hands of the very people that they came to save?
There have always been those favored by God, those who possessed that which God had given them which was so much more valuable than
any wealth could ever amount to. In fact in the world today as always had been, there are only two wills. That which goes with which Gods
ordains, and that which goes against which God ordains. There are those who stand for that which God orders, and those who stand against
that which God orders.
