of the Apostles of God. For all
women to emulate and adhere
closely, to reach a higher degree and
be raised in the Eyes of Allah (swt)
on earth. This was the unique and
sublime status of Sayyida Fatima
(a.s).
Sayyida Fatima a.s is raised highest
in rank through her steadfastness
and patience, deeply sensitive and
empathic to the feelings of others,
she is the embodiment and
perfection of the divine feminine
principle, the manifestation of the
intense mercy, compassion and
grace of Allah swt, a perfect
expression of His (swt) Beautiful
attributes. Sayyida Fatima (a.s) was
her fathers daughter who spoke up
against oppression and injustice in
the face of it and she suffered
severely for her stand and her
position among the ignorant ones.
A pure and perfect heavenly
creation of Allah (swt) living in the
traps of such vile, detestable
clutches of creatures as Umar Ibn
Khattab (l.a), Sayyida Fatima (a.s)
demonstrated, with her own
martyrdom, her stand against the
force and aggression of a tyrannt in
the name of God and for divine
justice and providence. 'That abode
in the hereafter, We assign it for
those who intend not to exalt
themselves in the earth, nor (to
make) mischief (therein); and the
end is (best) for the pious
ones.'(28:83) Sayyida Khadija (a.s)
said that "Fatimah was born in a
halo of radiance and light." Unlike
what was customary in those days,
Sayyida Fatimah (a.s) was nursed
personally by her mother. She was
not given to a wet nurse. The name
Fatima means weaning -one who
will wean her followers away from
the fire of hell. After the death of her
mother, Sayyida Fatima a.s was very
young but accompanied her father
everywhere. Growing up she
witnessed her father speak softly in
the midst of a crowd of people and
they in turn harshly sent him away.
Sayyida Fatima (a.s) as a small child
witnessed this at short distance of
Masjid al-Haram and watched when
her father was called names and
beaten. She watched as he
prostrated himself in the mosque
and his enemies threw intestines of
a sheep at him. With her young
hands she would clean the face of
her father and comfort him. It is
because of this that he would call
her Umm al Abiha, the mother of
her father. Muhammad (s.a.w) said
“Fatimah is part of me. Whatever
pleases her pleases me and whatever
angers her, angers me." Whenever
she entered the room, he would
stand for her.
Upholder of truth & justice
The grief at losing her father was
compounded when his instructions
from Allah (swt), regarding his
successor, were not obeyed. The ill
conceived meeting at Saqifa, whilst
she and her family mourned the loss
of her beloved father Muhammad
(s.a.w), appointed someone in
contradiction to the divine
instructions given by the Prophet
(s.a.w) at Ghadeer Khum. She also
had to contend with the confiscation
of her right to Fadak (The land she
had rightfully inherited from her
father). Her response in the court of
the Khalifa to being deprived of her
rightful inheritance is well accepted
as a masterpiece in eloquence and
knowledge.
"O my father! After your death I
was subjected to such tortures that
if they had been inflicted on the day
it would have turned to night"
Sayyida Fatima a.s
Thus the successive calamities and
severe hardships which befell Lady
Fatima Zahra (a.s), even before
reaching the prime of her life. Only
six months after Prophet
Muhammad s.a.w left the world,
once again the people fell into total
darkness when the oppressors
claimed for themselves sovereignty
through the cowardice and
treasonous acts of the people and
usurped the rights of Imam Ali (a.s)
and the inheritance of Lady Fatima
(a.s). Finally came the fateful day
where Umar ibn Khattab (l.a)
entered the house of Imam Ali (a.s)
and Sayyida Fatima (a.s) by force.
He set ablaze their home and broke
down the door which fell upon
Sayyida Fatima Zahra (a.s) and left
her injured and confined to bed.
Suffering from the pain of her injury
and loss of her unborn son Mohsin
a.s, she spent time remembering
what had come to pass and seeing
her devoted husband who had
always been her safe haven
whenever abused or treated
wrongfully by the enemies of Allah
and the Ahlul Bayt (as), May the
Curse of Allah swt be upon the
Enemies of Allah swt and Ahlul
Bayt a.s. She remembered her rights
usurped, her oppressed husband
and his stolen position; She
remembered him being led by his
turban to the Mosque while she
followed him. A sorrowful image
appeared before her then a
heaviness encompassed the depth of
her heart; That very heart which
longed for the great Messenger her
loving father Prophet Muhammad
(s.a.w). Oh How forsaken she was!
Still, she was the daughter of the
Prophet s.a.w, Sayyida Fatima Zahra
a.s, the light of his eyes, a part of
himself.
Yet this did not stop the most
arrogant and ignorant of men from
violating her rights, nor did it stop
their wretched, sinful hands from
reaching out to crush the beautiful
