A LETTER
FROM THE
president
PGN has been an important part of my life since pledging during my Sophomore year
at the University of Illinois. PGN gave me the opportunity to build new friendships, grow
professionally, and contribute philanthropically; all of which truly impacted my life and
career, while also making my college experience so distinctive and fun. My participation
on the National Council has been a great opportunity to stay involved and continue to
grow our organization to share and expand the PGN experience for future members and
alumni.
Current Members & Alumni,
It’s an extremely exciting time for Phi Gamma Nu, of which I’m both honored and thrilled
to be a part.
The theme for this year’s magazine is “Reaching New Heights”, which is consistent with
the theme of this year’s National Convention held in Chicago in April. I hope you enjoy
reading about all of the exciting things our members and alumni have to share!
For the past two years, I served on the National Council as the National Treasurer. While
there has been plenty of work to do, it’s been extremely fulfilling to be a part of the
change in the organization. We’ve been able to accomplish a lot over the past two years,
but more importantly I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Fraternally,
Matt Hisey
National President
I know there are many current members and alumni who share this passion and have
great experiences and skill sets that could have a huge impact on our organization at
a National level. So reach out and get involved! You can find more details at www.
phigammanu.com. Also, please look out for emails in the future with ways you can help,
such as through our growing portfolio of Director opportunities or running for a position
of the National Council. We’d love to have you on board.
This past fall, we welcomed two new chapters to the PGN family at the University of
Iowa and the University of Pittsburgh. This spring, we intend to welcome another chapter
from Blackburn College. Additionally, our expansion team (led by our VP of Expansion Eric
Parker) has been exceptionally successful in both developing and executing an effective
recruitment strategy. Eric’s team is continuously working to onboard additional chapters
that we hope to initiate within the next 12-18 months. I would like to personally thank Eric
and all of our Directors of Expansion for all of their efforts during the past year.
We’ve also continued to look for new ways to ensure the continued professional
development and philanthropic efforts of our members. To help us achieve this mission,
we created the Phi Gamma Nu Scholars Foundation, which was recently granted 501(c)3
tax-exempt status by the IRS. This new entity will allow for new tax deductible donations
to provide increased opportunities to benefit our members’ professional growth and
philanthropic interests. A special thanks to Janet Lee (Director of Tax) for all of her time
and effort to make this happen.
During the next two years, we have many more great things which we will continue to
focus on. This includes continued expansion efforts, creating new National Director roles,
growing our national brand and online presence, developing our alumni network and alumni
events, implementing the vision of the new Foundation, and continuing to improve our
internal communications and processes.
