Recently several of our members and industry participants undertook the certificated course at Workskills Tasmania, namely Sustainable Painting Practices. The course was enjoyed by all participants and all that attended gained an insight into the Environmental aspect of the painting industry. With Federal and State governments placing a greater awareness in all aspects of Environmental Sustainability the course gave a sound outlook of what many consumers are expecting from modern day painting contractors when quoting projects that do impact on the environment such as lead based paint, excessive water and solvent uses.
Consumers and employees will all benefit from the knowledge that using a range of less toxic materials allows for greater benefits to their health and a far lesser impact on their environments both at home and work. The course also gave a good insight into waste management and was very well detailed by our course provider Mark Amos. I urge you all to attend the next available course either here or in Melbourne as Mark also outlines how to market yourself as a Master Painter that uses Environmental Painting Practices, the word Sustainable is gaining momentum in all forms of industry so don’ t miss out.
Recently I was asked to quote a job for a client that had rang our office to provide them with some of our Tassie member names so she could contact them to quote on the painting of her residence. This was done by our Melbourne office as she showed me a list of the names provided. The result was very disappointing as she had been let down twice as designated dates and times were not attended. The painters concerned did not even ring to say they could not be there. For our association to be appreciated by consumers it is of the utmost importance that members attend to referrals and if you can not attend to provide a quotation then ring our head office and the client to outline this. Please remember you are a member that feeds from referrals and the good intententions of other members so don’ t let us down with this basic request.
In closing i hope you all have a prosperous year and the Victorian office will contact you re courses available and a date and place for our next meeting.
