42 The MAG Vung Tau
1. Republik 45 – Seminyak –( Jalan Raya Kerobokan 86A, Kerobokan)….. Highly recommend this restaurant. Give the tuna tartare a wide berth as some pieces too tough to eat, forever compensating the waiter and chef offered to replace with other selection- service excellent. Duck wonton starter, beef rendang and stuffed chicken roll. Exquisite in presentation and flavours. Ambience and service exemplary.( Approx. Aud $ 90 / couple with beer and a cocktail + 2 courses)
2.“ di Mare” at Karma Kandara …( Kama Kandara Resort, Karma Kandara, Ungasan, Indonesia) Excellent ambience, vista, food and service- See comments above.( Approx. Aud $ 100 / couple with beer and a cocktail + 3 courses each)
3. Mozzarella Restaurant and Bar –( Jl. Padma no. 9, Legian) ….. Started with an excellent“ expresso martini” cocktail with our name in it – 2 for 1 offer. Delectable mains – we endulged with salmon pasta and stuffed chicken followed by desserts – the crêpes lacked taste but the crème brûlée was delicious. Overall very delicious meal and great service, we would recommend this restaurant- we were at Mozzarella in Padma Street ground level, the one in Melasti Street, upstairs and another on the beach towards Double 6 Beach.( Approx. Aud $ 45 / couple with beer and a cocktail + 2 courses)
4. Deliziosa Pizza & Pasta –( Jl. Poppies II no. 46 | 2nd floor of Hurley)….. Great lunch spot in Poppies Lane 2- The quarto pizza and calamari were delicious. Staff are always very customer service orientated. No alcohol served.( Approx. Aud $ 20 / couple with 2 ice coffees, pizza and calamari)
5. BALI FOOD SAFARI – Aud $ 150 / person for driver, hostess and 12 small courses at 4 restaurants in Seminyak area, also includes 1 cocktail and coffee:
• Azul Beach Club –( Jl. Padma No. 2 | The Beachfront, Legian- Bali Mandira) Spectacular location especially for a sunset. This was the first restaurant on our BALI FOOD SAFARI TOUR- we had an excellent tapa size selection of 2 different fish " cooked " in different ways- the snapper was in lime juice, tuna in a vinegar and then tuna in a dark sauce...... plus a delightful passionfruit cocktail. ALL TASTED DELICIOUS..... EVEN recommended by Steve who never orders seafood, especially when not cooked in a traditional manner!
• Frestro & Bar –( Jl. Petitenget no. 108-110 | Hotel Jambuluwuk oceano seminyak, Kerobokan)….. delightful venue, excellent food was served as tapa size tastings- one of the dishes was Smoked tongue capelli with lemon, garlic, parsley and EVO OIL- I wasn ' t looking forward to this but IT WAS DELICIOUS- probably one of the best flavours of the night! They also offered wine and cocktail pairing which was excellent. Recommended.
• MoVida Bali –( Jalan Petitenget No 51B, Seminyak) …… venue very good as was the food yet not quite fine dining category. We had 3 tapa size tastings:- maize chargrilled with goats cheese and cured egg yolk, squid ink dyed roll filled with soft shell crab- tasty but I ' d prefer more crab without the bread and then tasted " Atun "- raw tuna, black olive on watermelon..... nothing super special but all tasty.
The manager, Henrick, was delightful and showed us over the hotel( opened May 2016) including the penthouse where Grace Jones recently stayed..... very swish. Then he walked us over to " sister " restaurant- Potato Head- to view only...... Interesting venue with great ambience though music is loud.
