F rom The Editor We live in a beautiful country, don’t we! Every day puts a smile on my face when I walk down the main street. A simple “chào bạn” with a wave, brings a smile to the locals face and they are quick to respond. A European tourist was wandering past my wife the other day while she was waiting for a taxi, and asked if she would know where he could find a dentist. He had been walking the streets for hours in the heat. She turned to him and said “you are really on the wrong side of town” the look of despair flooded over his face, “My taxi will be here in a moment, I’ll drop you off at the dentists as it is across the road from where I have to go” she said. Needless to say he was greatful and accepted the ride. Simple friendly gestures can help others in many ways, it’s free and it makes you feel great. ell easter is just about here and the kids are wiating in anticipation for those elusive easter eggs, this month is also our national day of commem- oration, ANZAC Day, 25th April. Many local western bars are having a small service on this special day so check their notice boards for details. W Last month saw the passing of a Vung Tau icon “Captain Ron”. Winston Churchill once said ;“I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.” I can just imagine Capt. Ron having the same thoughts, a true Gentleman and good friend of many local residents in Vung Tau. His son David forwarded an email to me and asked I share it to all. Capt Ron’s memorial service is scheduled for 10 am Saturday 29th April. Tin Lanh Chapel 164 Ba Co Street Vung Tau It will be held in one of the function rooms behind the chapel. The service is expected to last about 30-40 minutes, after the service we intend to take Capt Ron’s Ashes out to Vung Tau Bay for his final resting place in accordance with his wishes. (this arrangement is still work in progress) We are planning to have a party to Capt Ron’s memory at McCallums on Mon- day 1st May in the evening – this day would have been his 86th Birthday. I would be very grateful if you could spread the news to others as I don’t have email contacts for everyone. Thanks! Kind Regards David K.
