Couch Potatoes or Lounge Lizards?
Flopping down in front of the telly, an ice bucket chilling half a dozen stubbies within reach whilst watching all the sporting action might be your modus operandi at home. Sipping ice colds eyes glued to the screen is most sport fans ideal relaxation after a hard day’ s night.
For holiday makers and ex pats living in Vung Tau however there is a much more popular alternative. The marvels of modern technology make it possible to wander down to your favourite bar / restaurant and watch all the action live, no matter where in the world it is being held.
There is no shortage of options. Many bars / restaurants pander to sport fans with some boasting TV screens providing all the action from a variety of sports.
Never in the history of mankind has there ever been a more exciting time for participants and spectators alike. So where is your favourite pew in VT?

The major sports in Oz during the southern winter is either Australian Rules( AFL), Rugby League( NRL) or the game they play in Heaven – traditional Rugby Union. Then there are other popular sports such as Hockey, Netball and Golf plus a host of alternative sporting competitions.
The summer sports are in finals mode and Basket Ball, Cricket, Tennis, Swimming, Cycling etc are winding down. The top performers will be heading north to compete internationally.
For the uninitiated, sport in Australia is all inclusive. Women’ s competitions have been established in all codes and the fans have embraced the concept enthusiastically.
The seasons are also changing in other parts of the globe. The Yank’ s Super Bowl is done and dusted and Baseball about to commence. The Poms and Europeans are crossing their fingers their favourite club will emerge triumphantly at season’ s end before summer sports take off.
The three forms of cricket, Test matches. One day internationals and the hit and giggle 20 over Big Bash will be popular – especially in India. In Oz, Cricket Australia executives were rubbing their hands in glee as bumper crowds flocked to the Big Bash competition. All cricketing states entered teams in both the men’ s and women’ s competitions.
As it transpired I was in Perth spending time with my family and since the Perth Scorchers made the final of both comps my son-in-law, a Canadian, decided to shout me to the WACA ground to watch the action live. Grandstand seats! The ground has enjoyed a considerable revamp since my cricketing days way back when. After trudging up the steep hill at the top of Wellington St we made our way to the entrance gates.
“ Why didn’ t you tell me to park here? Brent asked as he pointed to the many vacant parking spaces.“ Well mate,” I explained,“ Where we parked its free all day. There you have to buy a parking ticket and they charge by the hour. And look!” I pointed to long lines of people queuing up at the ticket metres. As we passed I strolled over the have a peekaboo at the sign.‘$ 4 dollars per hour’ it read.“ That means it’ d cost us twenty bucks to leave the car here.”
