It ’ s the start of the sports season , not just for us in Vung Tau but for the rest of the world as well . AFL , NRL , Rugby , Cricket , Formula One , MotoGP and the list goes on . If you don ’ t know where to go in town to watch your favorite sport check with our new publication , we are launching in time for the beginning of the AFL . It ’ s a weekly Mini MAG to complement the main monthly and will be available in all participating bars . Full run down each week on the weekend events , results , ladders , and predictions for the following week . We will also be running a Tipping Competition covering the majors , with great prizes throughout the season . Sports fans will be reserving their seats in their favorite haunts to watch the action . Visa runs have come up again in general discussions this month and like many , I had to do one . Bangkok is getting my vote but make sure you have arranged a Business visa on arrival back in HCMC . It makes life a lot simpler and in the long run cheaper . I ’ ll publish the trip details next month .
This month has been full of surprises and memorable events , some really great and some very sad . We all lost a True Gentleman and Vung Tau Icon last week . I try not to dwell on the passing of friends however Captain Ron , as known to all expats in Vung Tau , was by all accounts a true gentleman and a very good friend , for many years in my time in Vung Tau . All that gathered for farewell drinks had memorable and fond stories to share of the adventures and antics of our friend Capt . Ron . A memorial service will be held by his son David , and family members , in Vung Tau on Ron ’ s birthday in May . Everyone will miss you Capt .
Our publication this month has been delayed a few days due to server issues however thanks to the endless hours of remote IT support from my son Daniel , in Australia , all is back up and running , the new web site is faster and cleaner than our first one , check it out at www . themagvietnam . com .
All our issues are available online from our website and during the month we plan to do reprints of backissues in packs to celebrate our six month anniversary of The MAG and 33rd year wedding anniversary for Colleen and myself on the 10th of March .
