New Year at the end of January 2017. People can buy tickets using electronic wallets, cards or cash. The service will later be expanded to 300 Circle K and B’ Smart stores as well as others like FPT shop, Viễn Thông A, Thế giới di động, Vinmart, and Ministop. This is expected to reduce the crowds at train and bus ticket counters before Tết. Tet train tickets will be available for booking from 8am of November 15th, announces Saigon Railway. The booking is supposed for passengers travelling from 14- 21 January 2012( before Tet holiday) and from 26 January 2012 to 3 February 2012( after Tet holiday). According to this plan, Dong Ha, Quang Tri – Hanoi route tickets can be purchased from 15 – 20 November, Hue – Saigon tickets 22 – 27 November, applied for both one way and return tickets before and after Tet holiday and the rest of tickets( if available) for sale between the 1st and 12th of December. Passengers booking though Saigon Railway website need to fill in the reservation form with their names and identity card or passport number. Each account can make one reservation for up to 4 people and the maximum number of tickets per reservation is 8, including go and return journey.
Should you decide that bus transport is your prefered means of getting around during Tet you should be aware of the schedules, I would highly recommend you double check with the bus company before you book. The centre for managing public transport of the city has procured 120 buses with at least 30 seats on each bus for major coach stations of Mien Dong, and Mien Tay, and other inter-municipal bus stations.
On the 29th of Tet on February 7, all chartered subsidised buses will stop delivering passengers at 12:00pm except for 4 bus lines, which are numbers 1, 20, 90 and 96. Those buses will deliver the last batch of passengers at 5pm.
All chartered subsidised buses will be working from 8am to 5pm on the first day of the Lunar New Year on February 8.
