Fishing with a difference, Hai Luc is situated behind a Garage / Mechanic Shop, so you need to walk down the side of the shop to enter. It consists of two large ponds stocked with fish. They supply bamboo poles and bait for a small cost of approx. $ 1.50 or you can bring you own rod and reel. Around the sides of the pond they have sitting areas with tables and chairs. You can purchase drinks including beer, but you will have to ask them to put the beer on ice in a bucket if you like cold beer. There is an extensive menu to chose from and if you manage to catch a decent size fish they will cook it up for you at a minor cost per kg. If you wish to take your catch home with you, there is also a cost involved. We have seen some fish being pulled up that would weight around 5kgs. The place buzzes with excitement when someone is trying to land that special fish, everyone stops and watchs the fish being landed and congratulations are given to the person who caught the fish. It is a geat way to relax, catch up with friends and enjoy a great meal.

The Family Mini Mart is a blessing to all those who crave the little things we take for granted at home. This compact supermarket is overflowing with Western and Vietnamese food. Those imported NZ lamb chops, Aussie Steaks, HP sauce..... There isn’ t much you can’ t get, should you have a special request just ask the boss, if it’ s available in Vietnam she will get it in for you within a couple of days. Luyen and her sister Men, are there all the time. They have a good range of imported wines at very reasonable prices along with cheeses, salmon, steak, a great range of condiments and much.. much more! They also provide free home delivery. The store is conveniently situated next door to Belly’ s Watering Hole and Restaurant, so you can leave your shopping list with the girls and enjoy a beer and a chat while they fulfill your order, when you are ready to go, it will be all bagged up waiting for you. This is a family mini mart that this city has been waiting for, the effort that has been put in to cater not just the Ex-Pats but local Vietnamese clients as well is unbelievable. I have been watching the development of this venue from it’ s first conception at the old Belly’ s Watering Hole to the new premises and from my point of view, patrons of which I include myself, are astonished at the transformation, it was well thought out and has only enhanced the expectations of their clientele. Well over due in this city and a true credit to Belly and his team for achieving another milestone.. For the record Belly has handed over total control for this business to the ladies( family) that now own and run the business, from my personal perspective, I take my hat to Belly for his commitment and training of the team to achieve this in such a short time.
