An important part of our co-curricular programme is service. All our pupils, from Year 7 upwards, learn that they have a duty to others and that contributing to local, national and international communities is a normal part of what we do. All Years 7 and 8 are actively involved, and are given ample opportunity to participate in existing activities and to initiate others. All pupils have an hour a week reserved for learning about service and social impact, during which they also have the chance to work together on their own projects. In addition, they can join projects run by staff or older pupils, they can – specifically in the Lower School – help out in a local primary school and they all are expected to offer a contribution to tutor group weekly cake sales in aid of a charity of their choice. Year 8 pupils are given seed money to grow through their own entrepreneurship into a greater sum, again to go towards a chosen charity. In Enrichment Week all pupils are involved in enrichment activities, many of which have a social impact on our local community, such as helping at a hospice or primary schools, and cleaning parks and beaches. the lower SCHOOL | AT SEVENOAKS 11
