What advice would you give a new writers?
Never, ever give up. You will never be published if you give up. Your first acceptance always comes after one of those otherwise-defeating rejections. Pull up your big girl panties and get back in the game right away. In today’s internet world, there is no excuse for giving up since there are countless options to find a reading audience for your work.
You wrote a book recently called A Maverick Life: The Jack Kelly Story," bio of the co-star of TV's "Maverick" (1957 - 1962) How did that come about?
I had previously published Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism, about early Hollywood heartthrob actor, Robert Taylor. I met someone who knew I wrote entertainment bios. This person was a friend of Jack Kelly’s widow. He suggested that Jack’s life might make a good book. He got me in touch with Jo Kelly, we talked, met, hit it off, and after I did some research into Jack Kelly’s life, I agreed … Jack was the perfect subject for my next book. I’m glad I made that decision.
