The Looking Glass Volume 39 | Page 38

Tree

The night sky surrounds me.

Though dark I can see

it’s true color of purple

encompassing everything around it,

ever so softly,

giving them shadows and depth.

Stars twinkle and

leaves rustle

floating around my body.

Lying on the ground and feeling

the life of nature throughout me.

All thoughts leave my mind

as I touch the tree and become one with it.

I feel anchored but not by sin

only by the earthly good.

My eyes are heavy and

my hair brushes against my neck.

There is no itch of grass

or scratch of tree bark.

All of it is soft and light.

Windchimes sound and

I feel their cool air,

but against the hot summer night

it soothes my skin.

Sensation fades away

leaving me lying there

surrounded by trees,

ready for whatever comes my way.

No longer thinking of

what could go wrong.
