I grew up on a farm. It was a kind, humble neighborhood with good hospitality. It was a great place to be. I spent most of my life there.
I grew up with only one parent, but life was still good. I had a twin, too. Her name was Jenny. Together we were Jenny and Jacqueline. While she was still here, we went everywhere together. We spent our days talking, playing games together, and worshiping our gods. Every year, we got to take part in a very special religious ritual.
We would come together with others from different societies, holding contests as a special event. At our annual events, whoever was successful and did best would be selected to move out and live with on other side. My mom and Jenny left one year. I remember when they were selected. I remember how everyone cheered for them and I, of course, cheered the loudest.
I always wondered what happened when they left. No one ever knew; our friends that left us never came back. We simply assumed it was good, it had to be. This event was so much fun for us, it should have been fun on the other side too. I miss them sometimes, but I just know that they are being celebrated. I hope they’re happy together.
